NHTSA started investigation against Harley Davidson

NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) has started investigation against Harley Davidson motorcycles. The investigation is because of receiving complaints from riders that their motorcycle brakes failed without warning. NHTSA received 43 complaints which include three accidents and two injuries.
The NHTSA said that the investigation covers 4,30,000 motorcycle in U.S. The complaints was for 2008 to 2011 model motorcycles and the investigation covers motorcycles with ABS system.
The complaint was that the front brake handlever or the brake foot pedal suddenly would not work. The complaint says that both brakes failed at the same time results in a crash.

As per NHTSA reports, “It is possible that some riders who experienced brake failure didn’t change the motorcycle’s brake fluid every two years as recommended by Harley-Davidson. The old fluid becomes contaminated by moisture and allegedly corrodes the ABS actuator valves, resulting brakes failure.
