Petrol version of XUV500 and the Scorpio will debut next year

Due to the diesel ban, Mahindra was facing a big problem for new diesel vehicles with a displacement of 2000cc and more. Now the Mahindra was facing problem with the diesel engine for Scorpio and the XUV500. Now the NTG (National Green Tribunal) is likely to extent the diesel ban to 11 more cities. The reports suggest that the Mahindra is to be working on the petrol powered versions of the XUV500 and the Scorpio.

The Executive Director of Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M), Pawan Goenka said that despite being a diesel player they had a feeling that a diesel only approach may not be good enough and hence, the company would now be launching the petrol variants for the Scorpio as well as the XUV500 this year. Future vehicles are also said to come with both options. The petrol engines are likely to be co-developed with Ssangyong. Ssangyong is a company that was recently acquired by Mahindra and Mahindra.
